NMDPRA denies halting gas supply to power plants
The Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) on Wednesday denied claims that it directed wholesale gas suppliers to stop supplying gas to power-generating companies (GENCOs) over payment defaults.
The agency, in a statement said the report is false and baseless, emphasising that no such directive was given.
NMDPRA said the misinformation came from a recent stakeholders’ engagement held in Lagos, which was misinterpreted.
NMDPRA noted that the purpose of the sensitisation was to enable stakeholders to know the provisions of the Petroleum Industry Act (PIA), particularly sections 142 and 197, which relate to the implementation of the wholesale supply license.
The NMDPRA reassured stakeholders and the public that it remains committed to ensuring uninterrupted supply and distribution of natural gas and petroleum products, particularly as the festive season approaches.
