Russelsmith tasks operators on corrosion control

Russelsmith Group, an indigenous integrated oil field service firm, has tasked professionals on the need to develop cost effective solutions for the industry.

Part of such solutions is the need to ensure maintenance of oil and gas facilities, especially in relation to corrosion control has been emphasized.

Corrosion leads to the failure of parts and results in shutting down the plant to clean the facility

Russelsmith stated this recently while hosting the Lagos section of NACE International, a globally recognised corrosion authority.

The Senior Executive/Vice President, RusselSmith, Kayode Adeleke, said: ‘We remain committed to promoting the values, goals and objectives of NACE in line with the RusselSmith Group. Thus, we are well -positioned to e add value as an innovator in the industry.”

Adeleke advised NACE members to be more involved in the local activities of the body in order to create more awareness and strong platforms for advocacy and grooming of young interns in the profession.

Chairman, NACE International, Lagos Section, Eric Oguama, said with Nigeria’s dwindling revenue due to falling oil prices and increasing rate of vandalism of oil and gas facilities, the maintenance requirements of the facilities has either remained unchanged or escalated due to green to brown field transitions or quality checks.

Oguama challenged professionals in the industry to provide more cost effective maintenance solutions, especially as regards corrosion control.

He said the way forward is to provide local competency through affordable professional trainings and certification such as the NACE Basic corrosion course scheduled for 2017.
