200 students benefit from APM scholarship Scheme
Managing Director of APM Terminal Apapa Limited, Mr. Andrew Dawes, says over 200 students across various universities and polytechnics in the country have benefitted from the firm’s scholarship scheme since 2011.
Presenting cheques to 50 beneficiaries of the scheme for year 2015, recently, Dawes said every year, 50 students in Nigerian tertiary institutions benefit from the scholarship scheme, including opportunities for industrial attachment for 14 beneficiaries, who perform well academically.
He hinted that the scheme and industrial training programme were instituted as part of the company’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), adding that beneficiaries who performed creditably during their internship with the firm have the opportunity of being employed upon graduation.
He said, “Our CSR seeks active community involvement in every location in which APM Terminals operate; in both developing and economically developed countries. The scheme affords beneficiaries the opportunity to acquire world-class training and development with our company.”
Commending the donor, one of the beneficiaries, Okhale Abraham of Auchi Polytechnic, Edo State, said the exposure and experience gained during his industrial attachment with the company was intellectually enriching.
“The experience I had then helped me a lot when I went back to school after the industrial attachment, I experienced the practical aspect of what I was taught in the class.”
Another beneficiary, Fidelis Ekeocha of the Maritime Academy of Nigeria, Oron, Akwa Ibom State, said, “It was a great privilege to have the opportunity of doing my internship with APM Terminals and I’m also grateful for the scholarship.
