SATURDAY, December 19, 2015. Achievers Baptist Church, Ejigbo-Lagos. Guest Ministers Revd. Paul Adebayo of the Estate Baptist Church, Oke-Afa and Revd. Abolaji Akinola, Moderator of the Maranatha Baptist Association; Pastor Seyi Olatunji-Saliu, Pastor Paul Akin Tonade; Pastor Segun Ladokun – all of Achievers Baptist Church and the International Choir of the church; Trustees of The Lord’s Kid’s Christian Foundation and scores of guests. That was the setting at the dedication of the Orphanage Ministry ‘The Lord’s Family’ the other day at the church auditorium. The care project which was conceived by Pastor (Mrs) Modupeola Adisa, was in the course of proceedings prayerfully dedicated to service of Christ by Rev. Abolaji Akinola.
Guest Speaker Revd Adebayo charged the organizers of the project:
“Starting something like this at a time like this is something to be proud of … the psychological aspect of it, the spiritual implication. Starting something like this calls for commitment, sincerity and faithfulness to God in the first instance because every kid that you adopt to the home is a kind of commitment to God.
“We have a number of people who are changing lives today and we hope the same thing will happen through this. I believe so much that the Lord will use them to cause a lot of transformation to so many lives. I was an under privileged myself and I know what it means to really come up without anybody assisting you.
“So, if we can see somebody ready to assist the less privileged, it is a good idea. We thank God for the Adisas coming this way and yielding to the call of God to really be instrument in the hand of God. The Lord Almighty will bless them,” Rev. Akinola said.
His charges were later reinforced by then Maranatha Moderator. Two hymns “Great is thy faithfulness” and “I am thine O Lord” amplified the day’s proceedings along with renditions by the International Choir.
On her part, the founder said: “Work is now going on in earnest. Even if we say this is the way we are going to differentiate ourselves, it may not have much meaning until we are in full operation. And you see what we are doing and you can compare it with what others are doing. It is a fully registered home with the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC). I don’t think there is much we can say to blow trumpets ourselves now until we start to see the differences.”
One of the Trustees Mr Banji Adisa said children from a day old will, as far as the Lord helps, and with support from people and groups – local and international, be taken care of in the orphanage up to marriageable ages if they so wish. “We are going to make it a different project. There are too many places parading as ‘orphanage homes’ now in our society where people go to buy babies like biscuits on the shelf, which is lamentable. This one will not be like that. And we are believing God that the products of The Lord’s Kid Care Home eventually will be children that will be of good use to themselves and to the society. It is like trying to restore dignity of the under privileged and treat the children with the kind of respect that individuals deserve,” he said.
“If at the end of the day only five or six children are positively brought up to compete with their peers, the society would have gained from the experience. Having as many as possible in the home is not really the objective. The fewer, the better, so that we would be able to give them the attention that they deserve. There are so many other homes in town which we have visited and from their own experiences, we have been able to get some advice. It is just a little way of contributing to the society.
“Just show a little kindness to other people and lift some people up. Look at what Mother Theresa did in the slums of India in those days. Up till today they are still talking about the woman and her charity mission work.”
The objectives of the non-governmental and not-for-profit orphanage, among others are to:
*rehabilitate, reform and re-integrate orphans, abandoned, abused children
* provide them a new lease of life with access to good education, vocational training etc as individual carrying capacity preparatory to full adult lives in an accommodating environment
* demonstrate the love of God to mankind irrespective of race, colour or creed
* strive to erase the stigma often attached to abandoned children or orphans
* provide an atmosphere of care in a family setting, one that any child deserving of such would be proud of.
