Accident victim seeks assistance for corrective surgery

OLAJIRE Oyewale Bankole, (43), an accident victim, whose life was saved by mother-luck, is in dire need of help from compatriots to treat the injury inflicted on him by the accident.

Bankole, who came to The Guardian in crutches, which had for two years been his companion, narrated his ordeal thus:

“Since I had this accident two years ago, I, a father of three, have been finding it difficult, in fact, impossible to put food on the table for my children, who had since been out of school for lack of money. As the sole breadwinner, my family had been wallowing in poverty and deprivation because my wife, who is a full-time housewife, even since I married her, is without any means of earning income to sustain the family. (He struggled to fight back tears as he tells his story to The Guardian)

“Before the accident, I was a transporter. I plied Epe-Ajah route. In March 2013, I was involved in a ghastly motor accident. A private car rammed onto my bus and immediately fled the scene. Being alone at the time, I could not get any help even I as struggled in the pool of my own blood for hours, before some sympathisers came to my rescue and took me to Eleko Medical Hospital, from where I was referred to The National Orthopedic Hospital, Igbobi, Yaba, Lagos.

“After staying there for days and seeing no significant improvement in my condition, I was advised to patronise local bonesetters.

Someone later got a bonesetter for me at Epe and my siblings took me there.

“After several weeks there, instead of improving, my condition was deteriorating. I pleaded with the local bonesetter to let me go home.

“Subsequently, I was advised to go back to The National Orthopedic Hospital, where several medical tests were conducted on me”

At that juncture, The Guardian asked him to produced evidence to confirm that he actually had been to The National Orthopedic Hospital. The report, in deed indicated that he needs a corrective major surgical operation on his left hand and legs, which, according to the Pre-Operative and Admission Assessment Form of the hospital put at #210,000.

His hospital Number was 602212, dated February9, 2015. His medical consultant was Dr. Layemo of DOT department of the hospital.

Bankole is calling on all kind-hearted Nigerians to come to his aid and to support him to raise the amount estimated for his treatment.
