Adepoju shares insights on how to transform businesses with data
A seasoned professional in data science and business intelligence, Peter Adepoju, has explained how data-driven strategies can transform businesses.
Speaking with The Guardian, he stated that his interest in data science began during his undergraduate studies in Computer Science, where I discovered the power of data to solve real-world problems.
“Over the years, my curiosity evolved into a passion for extracting actionable insights that drive meaningful business outcomes. This passion led me to pursue advanced studies in Data Science and take on roles that allowed me to apply analytics to transform processes and improve decision-making in diverse sectors like healthcare, retail, and SaaS.”
With over five years of experience, he discloseed that a defining moment of his career was during his tenure at Datahawk, where he implemented machine learning models that improved forecast accuracy by 20 per cent and enhanced customer retention by 15 per cent.
“I also led a project that streamlined data ingestion processes, reducing manual efforts by 60 per cent. Another proud achievement was with Jovac Global, where I developed predictive models that boosted forecasting accuracy by 25 per cent and spearheaded database migrations to the cloud, cutting development costs by 10 per cent.”
He said that his expertise in data analysis has also contributed to business growth.
” I focus on leveraging data to uncover opportunities for improvement. For instance, I developed an RFM analysis framework at Datahawk that helped increase client spending by £32,000 on average. At Zurich Business Intelligence, I optimised workflows, saving over $15,000 yearly. These successes highlight how data, when harnessed effectively, becomes a catalyst for both operational efficiency and revenue growth.”
On the tools and techniques he relies on to extract insights and drive decisions, he said: “I’m proficient in Python, R, and SQL for data extraction, cleaning, and analysis. For visualisation, I use Tableau and Power BI to create dashboards that simplify complex data for stakeholders. Additionally, I apply machine learning techniques such as clustering and regression to make accurate predictions and inform strategies. I’ve also used cloud computing platforms like Azure and Databricks to enhance data accessibility and scalability.”
With the data field is constantly evolving, he explained some of the challenges he has been encountering, and how he has been addressing them.
His words: “One major challenge is ensuring data accuracy and compliance, especially with GDPR regulations. As a Data Protection Officer at Datahawk, I implemented regular audits and staff training to maintain adherence to privacy laws. Another challenge is translating technical insights into actionable strategies. To address this, I prioritise clear communication and stakeholder engagement, ensuring that data insights align with business goals.”
Asked how have these experiences shaped his approach, Adepoju said:
“Each sector brings unique challenges and opportunities. In healthcare, I focused on improving metrics like Net Promoter Score (NPS) and Customer Satisfaction (CSAT). In retail, I optimised marketing campaigns and customer segmentation, increasing engagement. These experiences taught me the importance of customising data solutions to align with the specific needs of each industry, whether it’s enhancing operational efficiency or driving customer loyalty.”
On his approach to mentoring and leading teams in data analytics he noted that mentorship is about empowerment and collaboration, adding: “At Jovac Global, I mentored five junior analysts, boosting team productivity by 30 per cent. I focus on knowledge sharing, hands-on training, and fostering a culture where team members feel valued and motivated to innovate. Leadership, for me, is about creating an environment where data professionals can thrive and contribute their best.”
Adepoju has been featured in notable publications. In articles like ‘All You Need to Know About Raspberry Pi’ and he shares more light as an IT Volunteer for the OkeOgun Green Revolution which has been humbling.
“These platforms allowed me to share insights on technology and data while connecting with a broader audience. It’s fulfilling to know that my work resonates with professionals and enthusiasts alike.
“The future lies in democratising data access through intuitive tools and fostering data literacy. Cloud computing and machine learning will continue to drive automation and predictive analytics, enabling businesses to make smarter decisions. I’m particularly excited about the potential of AI in personalising customer experiences and optimizing supply chains. My goal is to remain a part of this evolution, helping businesses harness these technologies to their fullest potential.
“My immediate goal is to complete my MSc in Data Science, which will further refine my technical and strategic skills. Beyond that, I aim to continue driving innovation in data science, focusing on projects that promote efficiency and sustainability. I’m also passionate about mentoring the next generation of analysts and contributing to a future where data serves as a force for positive change,” he added.
