Centre empowers women farmers with ICT for agric development
The National Centre for Women’s Development (NCWD) has trained 100 on how to use Information Communication Technology (ICT) in agriculture to enable them adopt efficient farming techniques and boost quality food production.
Director-General of the centre, Mary Ekpere-Eta, made this known at the weekend in Abuja when she said the women were drawn from various local government areas in the 36 states of the federation, and would be empowered to ensure Nigeria attains the Social Development Goals (SDGs) Number Five (5), which is gender equality and the empowerment of all women and girls through ICT.
Speaking on the importance of exposing female farmers to the use of technology in farming, Eta said: “The training was designed to expose participants to the role played by information and communication technology in the development of modern agricultural practies, making it a catalyst in the realisation of the Federal Government’s plan to lift 100 million Nigerians out of poverty in 10 years.”
