GLOMESAM World Entertainment and Adventium Global Development Limited have concluded plans to stage a reality television show tagged, The FarmHouse, to train youths (housemates) in several areas of agriculture.

According to the promoters, the concept involves recruitment of selected unemployed graduates (minimum of NCE/ND qualifications) with passion for agriculture nationwide and camping them in an integrated farm for 90 days.

Mr. Isaac Oghogho and Mrs. Gloria Sambo during a briefing in Lagos noted: “The FarmHouse is aimed at promoting the rise of Agripreneurs and it is an advocacy tool for development of agri-business in Nigeria as housemates will equally be trained on good agricultural practices, including book keeping and writing business plans for agricultural financing.

“In the Farm House, housemates will be trained to see agriculture as a wealth-creating business as opposed to the current trend where the youths perceive agriculture in a derogatory manner.”

The organisers added that they were working with state governments to provide 1000 hectares of land per annum over five years under a public private partnership (PPP) scheme for housemates to cultivate at the end of each season of the show.

They added: “Each of the housemates will be assigned 20 unemployed youths as direct trainees. This will be organised as a cooperative. Hence by the end of year one post-show, a total of 1050 Nigerian youths will be involved in agriculture across the country. These additional 1,000 direct trainees will equally be assigned 20 trainees each as indirect trainees at the end of their second year (i.e. year 3).

“Overall, at the end of year 5, a total of 65,250 Nigerians will become entrepreneurs or employees in agriculture while cultivating approximately 50,000 hectares of land across a minimum of 10 states in Nigeria (average of 5,000ha/state) over a five-years period.”

The programme, they confirmed, had been endorsed by the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (FMARD), International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA) and the Bank of Agriculture (BOA).
