To restore its lost glory, old students of Alumni of Orioke High School, Akungba-Akoko (OHSA), Ondo State, are set to launch a N500m endowment fund to give the school a facelift and make it conducive for teaching and learning.
Addressing a press briefing to herald the school’s 50th anniversary, national President of OHSA, Dr. Ibiyemi Kereke-Ekun, said the fund was to return their alma mater to its former glory.
They reassured the school management of their continuous support towards elevating its status in terms of giving a facelift to the structures as well learning and teaching environment.
While lamenting the deplorable infrastructure in the school, Kekere-Ekun said amount realised would be channelled into developmental projects within the school.
He said: “We are looking at construction, reconstruction and rehabilitation of infrastructural facilities, in addition to equipping the school with modern internet and computer information facilities available anywhere in the world.
We want to make a bold move and give back to the school that taught us how to fish and become great fishermen and women.”
The Principal, Mr. Stanley Ojomolade, commended the old students for coming together to give back to the school that had moulded them into their current status.
He said if old students had been emulating such move, issue of deplorable infrastructure in most schools would have been solved without waiting for government’s intervention.
