ANPA at 30: Celebrating 3 decades of promoting medical excellence

The Association of Nigerian Physicians in the Americas (ANPA), the largest black diaspora professional organization in the world representing the interest of over 8,000 physicians and dentists of Nigerian descent practicing in the Americas marks 30 years of existence this year.

This year’s celebration will bring together Nigerian and diaspora physicians, healthcare professionals, policymakers, and advocates from around the world to focus on advancing healthcare in Nigeria and across Africa. The theme for ANPA Week 2025 is “Transforming Healthcare: Empowering Physicians, Strengthening Systems.” The week commenced with Medical Missions held at Federal Medical Centre, Ebute meta and Lagos University Teaching Hospital, Idi Araba from the 4th to 9th April, 2025.

A Charity Golf Kitty was held in collaboration with Ikoyi Golf Club on the 9th of April to increase awareness of ANPA’s activities in Nigeria.

ANPA would also host the 31st Annual Scientific Convention themed Advancing Patient care from the 10th to 13th April, 2025 at Eko Hotel Convention Centre.

In a statement by Cliff Eke President, ANPA he stated that the goals of the
ANPA include improving healthcare delivery across Nigeria, strengthening capacity and professional development, advocating for health systems strengthening and policy reforms, enhancing collaborative partnerships for sustainable healthcare and empowering the next generation of healthcare leaders.

According to Eke, in recognizing the importance of nurturing young medical talent, the ANPA Week will feature programs designed to inspire and mentor the next generation of Nigerian healthcare leaders.

He said, with dedicated sessions for medical students, residents, and early-career physicians, ANPA aims to cultivate a new wave of healthcare professionals equipped to address the challenges of modern healthcare.

“ANPA is presenting an exciting opportunity for Nigerian physicians, healthcare professionals, and policymakers to unite and focus on tangible actions that will improve healthcare delivery in Nigeria through a series of panel discussions, practical workshops, and networking events, this will serve as a powerful platform to create actionable solutions for strengthening healthcare delivery, building capacity, and advocating for reform in Nigeria’s healthcare sector,” he added.
