Akin Aboyade Cole, of 1959 Set of Lagos Baptist Academy, Obanikoro, Lagos State, fully savoured the joy of giving back to ones alma mater during the inauguration of a multi-million naira resource centre he donated to the school.

The facility named “MabelMoses Aboyade Cole ICT and e-Learning Centre,” was donated in memory of his deceased parents. The e-learning centre is not only open to the school community, but also to the outside world as it can be used for conferences, seminars, workshops and even for the computer-based test (CBT) examination conducted by some examination bodies including the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB).

President, Baptist Academy Old Students Association (BAOSA), Lanre Idowu, who spoke with The Guardian during the event said considering the present state of education in the country, old students generally should be committed to improving the standard of education in their alma maters.

He said the event is a quick reminder to the students, school proprietors, governments and all people of goodwill that the business of education is one that concerns all.

“It is part of the strategic interventions we are planning to do as old students to encourage all to rally round and lend support to the orderly development of learning in schools. And we think if we use this as a point of contact to other educational institutions, we can then begin to rebuild our education institutions all over the country,” he said.

He said old students owe alot of gratitude to the institutions that produce them and should therefore continually support and sponsor new educational projects.

Idowu added that the facility will improve learning a great deal and also put the school at a vantage position when placed alongside its contemporaries.

Principal of the school, Mrs. Ladoba Bosede, while commending the donor, said the facility would positively impact teaching and learning, “as the school will continually advance with the trend with this facility.”

“The donor came in 2010 from the United States, he went round the school and said he wasn’t impressed with infrastructural its development. He took photographs before he left only for him to come back in 2011 and started the project, he has since gone back to his base,” she explained.
