Baptist Church Ordains New Deacons
IN line with its spiritual role of partnering with the Holy Spirit for the transformation of nations, First Baptist Church, Ikeja, would today ordain six new Deacons at the church premises.
According to a statement by the chairman of the ordination committee, Engr. Peter Onyeri and Senior Pastor of the Church, Rev. Kayode Opadeji, the church will ordain six Deacons in a spirit filled service to support the vision of winning souls for Christ, as well as meet with the spiritual needs of the members.
Those to be ordained are Oladayo Salako, Jacob Dehinbo, Olufemi Okunade, Deaconess Gbemisola Okunade, Yemi Olaniyan and Omobosede Ajayi.
The deacons are being ordained in line with the Baptist doctrine, which recognises Deacons as next in hierarchy to Pastors. Rev. Opadeji said the history of deaconship dates back in time, when the early Apostles in the book of Acts of the Apostles chose them, to assist their ministry.
He explained that the new Deacons have undergone intense orientation and would work side-by-side with existing Deacons for a period of time.
