THE opposition Labour Party (LP) has upbraided President Muhammadu Buhari over the on-going war against corrupt practices in the polity.

LP’s national chairman, Alhaji Abdulkadir Abdulsalam, who spoke exclusively to The Guardian remarked that as far as he was concerned, the war against corrupt practices being waged by President Buhari was loopsided.

Faulting claims by President Buhari that there were no corrupt persons in his cabinet, the Labour Party chief remarked that the plight of Nigerians have been worsened since the All progressive congress (APC)-led administration came to power.

According to him: “The fight against corruption is sectional, discriminatory and malicious and he is not consistent as expected. In Buhari ‘s government there are corrupt people yet he is charging some people for using government money to campaign for former president Goodluck Jonathan but he forgot that in the APC states, governors used states’ monies to sponsor his campaign yet we have seen that his anti-graft campaign doesn’t affect those ones.

“Even at that, Buhari should not tell Nigerians that he has no corrupt ministers in his cabinet. I think he is not sincere; he is economical with the truth. “

Abdulsalam also listed the energy crisis, the face-off between the Sheik El Zak Zaky-led Shiite and soldiers in Zaria and the unending Boko Haram insurgency as clear cases of Buhari’s inability to live up to the expectations of Nigerians.

He noted: “The APC government and Buhari have not kept the promises they made to Nigerians in terms of security, provision of jobs, women empowerment, the economy is worse, it is biting harder and harder. Nigerians are now in a deep state of penury and it seems the president enjoys it so much.

“If you listen to his media chat, he seemed not to understand the Nigerian economy and what is going on. There is no proper economic blueprint that could be relied upon. The economy is going down the drain and I have not seen anything of hope in Buhari and APC government.

“The security is getting worse by the day, our Chibok girls are nowhere to be found in spite of Buhari’s promises to rescue the girls. The Boko Haram insurgents have changed their methods of attacks. They now kill randomly, so the situation in the country is awful.”
