The Edo State Government Universal Basic Education Board (EdoSUBEB) has embarked on an ambitious initiative to construct modern classrooms across the state’s 18 local government areas to improve educational facilities for students significantly.
In achieving this objective, the State utilised the service of top engineers from the state to monitor the task’s progress, provide infrastructural guidance, and ensure strict quality compliance in constructing state-of-the-art learning infrastructures. Amieghemen Goodnews Eronmonsele, a young Civil engineer from Esan North-East Local Government Area of Edo State, is one such top engineer committed to realising this vision and doing so with excellence.
Amieghemen at 24 exemplifies a fusion of civil engineering brilliance, academic excellence, and community development. He holds a Bachelor of Engineering degree in Civil Engineering from the prestigious University of Benin (UNIBEN), where he not only graduated at the top of his class but also set a new academic record with the highest Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) in the department’s history. He emerged as the overall best-graduating student, the first of over 10,000 graduates. His academic achievements have been complemented by distinguished awards and scholarships, including the Dr. F. Omobude Prize for Excellence, the Nigerian Society of Engineers Award for distinguished performance, the MTN Foundation Science and Technology Scholarship, the Agbami Scholarship for Medicine and Engineering Undergraduates, the NNPC/Shell National University Scholarship amongst other numerous awards.
In recognition of his outstanding Civil Engineering performance, Amieghemen was employed under an Edo State Government initiative to engage first-class engineers with the most distinguished technical proficiency to foster excellence in public service. Before joining EdoSUBEB, Amieghemen gained invaluable experience working with Macfranklyn Engineering Services and S.C.C. Nigeria Ltd., where he contributed significantly to infrastructure projects in Edo State and the Federal Capital Territory. He has led and has been a part of an extensive array of Civil Engineering projects, including retaining wall construction, erosion mitigation and remediation tasks, road dualisation, asphalt and concrete pavement construction, multi-story structural design, and construction.
Amieghemen has been involved in SUBEB’s mission to provide quality basic education for children in Edo State. While focusing on constructing classrooms and solving infrastructural problems to meet growing student needs, he has advocated for integrating innovation and sustainable practices in classroom design and construction. He and his team of top engineers and quantity surveyors have successfully provided engineering solutions to many problems bedeviling learning in Edo State, proffering solutions to erosion and flood-threatening classrooms and play areas. He also works closely with contractors to ensure projects meet quality standards and are delivered on time. Regular site visits and collaboration with contractors help ensure the facilities are functional, safe, and built to last.
As Edo State continues its efforts to improve educational infrastructure, individuals like Amieghemen are essential in ensuring these projects align with immediate and long-term goals. By focusing on quality construction, they contribute to a vision of education that prepares students for a brighter future while promoting responsible environmental stewardship.
