Community appeals to govt to fix bad roads

Yearnings by Lagos communities for government’s assistance to fix the deteriorating condition of the roads in their localities have been on the increase of late.

One part of Lagos, whose voice is strident in the call for government’s urgent attention, is in Alimosho, where communities have for years been burdened with many dilapidated roads.

Jezza Road, off Adaranijo Street is a major road in Mosan Okunola Local Council Development Area (LCDA), which is begging for rehabilitation. The road leads to Abeokuta Street, Okunola Street and links Remiogunjimi and Gowon estate together.

Most traders who display their wares around the area, said government has not been concerned about the state of the roads in Egbeda, and the only period the road is graded is during election period. Once elections are over, the road is left to worsen again.

A trader, Ugochukwu Dimaku, said for the past eight years, the condition of the road has not improved, especially during the rainy season. It has always been untarred with potholes and all efforts by community leaders to get government to fix the road have been abortive.

A commercial motorcycle operator, Mr. Ismalia Muyiwa, also lamented about the bad road, which according to him is having an adverse effect on residents.

“The deteriorating state of the road had made us to hike our fare but some people will insist on paying , yet most of what we earn is used to repair and maintain our machines.”
