A Community Leader in Sasha, Lagos state, Alhaji Abdulrauf Tijjani, has dismissed petition by ‘Oba’ of Shasha, Babatunde Ogunrombi, alleging that a judge of the Federal High Court and some people are working vigorously to dethrone him.
Tijjani also described Ogunrombi’s petition against Justice Musa Kurya as unmeritorious, lacking in substance, and therefore, urged the FHC’s Chief Judge, Justice Ibrahim Auta, to discountenance such.
Ogunrombi’s petition, which was addressed to Justice Auta was also published in a national newspaper on Monday July 25, 2016. In it, the petitioner urged Justice Auta to intervene over the alleged plot by some persons working in convince with the judge to forcefully and unlawful dethrone him as Oba of Shasha Kingdom.
He had also urged the Chief Judge to use his office to check what he described as ‘flagrant abuse of judicial power by Justice Musa Kurya, in a suit no. FHC/L/CS/1665/2013, between Babatunde Ismaila and Others Vs. Inspector General of Police and Others.
Tijjani, who was seventh applicant in the suit, said the monarch is ‘self-imposed’ and a squatter in the palace and is wanted by the Police following court orders.
Tijjani said: “On January 31, 2014, Justice Kurya, who is now on transfer to Jos Division of the court, delivered a judgment in suit no. FHC/L/1665/2013, between Babatunde Ismaila and others Vs. Inspector General of Police and others. On February 14, 2014, the judge also gave an order to enforce the judgment, while on February 24, 2014, the judge also granted an order compelling the IGP, and CP of Lagos state, to provide adequate security for the enforcement of the judgment.
“The judge also made a consequential order compelling the Lagos state government to produce Governor’s approval letter, that appointed Ogunrombi, as Oba of Shasha Kingdom. And because the Lagos state government failed, and did not produce the letter appointing his as Oba at the trial, the judgment was awarded in favour of Akinlowo and nine others, who were the plaintiff in the suit, while the sum of N30 million was awarded against the Oba and other respondents.”
