Dansol celebrates 20 years of excellence, rewards teachers with cars, cash

The scathing criticism they are exposed to and inclement working conditions notwithstanding, teachers must stay the course as their reward await them at the appointed hour.

Business study teacher at Dansol High School, Lagos, Mrs. Omolola James, gave the admonition shortly after she was presented with a car gift as one of the long-serving staff member of the school.

She further admonished that even in the face of little or no prospect of success; teachers must continue their good course in the overall interest of the society.

Speaking to The Guardian, on behalf of other recipients shortly after she was presented with a new Hyundai Accent car (full options), as part of activities to mark the 20th anniversary of the school, James who is now the hostel administrator, said but for perseverance, she would have left the profession a long time ago.

She challenged other teachers to be dutiful, committed and steadfast, so as to reap their reward in due season.

She said, “I came to Dansol at inception in 1995 as secretary to the proprietress. Later on I taught typing and shorthand. When the high school was established, I worked as the Business Study teacher. Now I am the hostel administrator.

“Teachers reward now starts from earth and even up to heaven, because more reward awaits them in heaven. I feel good and proud of Dansol, and I want to urge others not to see teaching as an avenue to just earn a living. Teachers must keep on working as if they were doing their personal jobs. They should put all personal interests aside and focus on the job. Rewards will definitely come someday.”

Other teachers who received brand new cars are Mr. James Onimisi and Mrs. Toyin Egbebunmi, while Mrs. Juliet Adekunle, received a cash award of N500,000 for her commitment to duty as well.

Proprietress of the school, Mrs. Adun Akinyemiju, said while the school was celebrating 20 years of God’s faithfulness and academic excellence, it deemed it necessary to reward teachers and other staff members that have contributed immensely to the growth of the school.

She said, “Without staff, teachers, there won’t be a school. At Dansol High School, we honour and encourage our staff by paying their salaries on time and promoting them when they are due. We also train them regularly to ensure they are given their pride of place in the profession.

“All these, we believe motivate them to discharge their duties to the best of their abilities. Our parents also appreciate and encourage our teachers. A labourer is worthy of his wages and their welfare package is paramount to us.”

She advised school administrators to endeavour to create solid structures and feasible policies that would make schools run even in their absence.
