To tackle increasing number of out- of-school children, Corona Schools Trust Council has enrolled 20 pupils into Adeife-Sodipo Akindeko Memorial Primary School, Lagos under its out-of-school children project.

The project, according to the council, is part of its commitment to reduce the number of out-of-school children in the state.

Chief Executive Officer, Corona Schools’ Trust Council, Mrs Adeyoyin Adesina, said under this project, the school would fund fully the pupils from primary to secondary and even beyond.

“For those who desire to go beyond, we are ready to continue paying tuition and every other thing that they need, we hope that with the support and cooperation of the community, we will be able to add more pupils to these numbers in the future,” Adesina said.

She said based on statistics, Nigeria is one of the countries with highest number of out-of-school children, globally, and the project is aimed at supporting government in addressing the issue.

“We are happy that our programmes and projects in the education space further support what the Lagos State Strategic Development Agenda set to achieve. We are hoping that with the support of the government and other corporate organisations, we will be able to take this initiative to other underserved communities,” she said.

The educationist noted that the intervention is not just for school enrolment, it includes educational supplies, school uniform kits, bags and books.

Education secretary, Somolu Education Government Authority, Onakoya Dare Martins, lauded the school for the initiative, adding that he is glad the private sector is collaborating with the government to address this challenge.

Adesina expressed hope that others who are yet to enrol will do so in due course to win the fight against out-of-school menace.
