Students of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko (AAUA), Ondo State, on Tuesday, raised the alarm over the mysterious disappearance of two of their colleagues, who have been missing for over two weeks.
The missing students, Andrel Eloho Okah of the Department of History and International Studies, Faculty of Arts, and John Friday Abba of the Department of Economics, Faculty of Agriculture, are both 200-level undergraduates at the state-owned institution.
Following their sudden absence from academic activities, which had sparked fear and confusion among their colleagues, some of the close associates and coursemates of the missing students stated that efforts to reach them had been unsuccessful.
According to a fellow student, who identified himself as Ajibola, the two students had not been available in school for the past two weeks, a behaviour he said they don’t engage in, hence the panic.
He said, “For over two weeks now, the two of them have been missing from school and academic activities in class. We had searched everywhere. We can’t find them, and we’re worried about their whereabouts.
“We don’t even know if it is a case of kidnapping or something else. The two of them are very close, though. But efforts to reach them through their phones have repeatedly failed. Their sudden disappearance is giving us cause for concern. The students’ community is already worried and also agitated.”
While expressing frustration over the purported lack of urgency from authorities, Ajibola noted that while the matter had been reported to both the school management and the police, no concrete action had been taken.
Meanwhile, distraught family members have reportedly launched their search efforts, with security agencies already informed of the development.
When contacted, the institution’s spokesperson, Mr. Victor Akinpelumi, stated that the institution had already informed the police about the development.
However, a management officer in the institution, who craved anonymity, stated that “the university management is aware of the case, but we are suspecting lots of development relating to the missing students. You would agree with me that there are a lot of unwholesome activities surrounding some of these students when they are on campus.”
The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in the state, Olayinka Ayanlade, stated that the police were notified of the development, with the situation currently under investigation.
