UNIBEN Accounting dept to hold 40th anniversary

Department of Accounting, University of Benin (UNIBEN), is set to celebrate its 40th anniversary and alumni reunion at the institution’s main campus in Benin City. The date is February 11 2022. 
  
In a statement by chairman, planning committee, Prof. Peter Ibadin, and Chairman, alumni local organising committee, Chief Tajudeen Akande, the anniversary celebration would provide unique opportunity to re-unite past and present students as well as to share fond memories and celebrate achievements.
   
According to them, the anniversary would witness the launch of alumni projects for the department, which comprises five units of 300-seating capacity lecture theatre  and 20 units of Professorial Offices and a bus.
 
The statement added that as part of the event, the department would be giving the Award of Excellence to distinguished alumni and non-alumni of the university who have achieved extraordinary progress in their chosen career and have impacted society and humanity in general.
 
“The anniversary would provide an opportunity to celebrate the founders of the school and its contributions to the community and City of Benin.

“The anniversary programme entails: a Welcome Cocktail/ Alumni Reunion on the evening of Thursday, February 10, 2022; Documentary on the history and milestones achieved; an anniversary lecture with the theme: The Import of the Fifth Industrial Revolution to Business, Accounting and Finance – a Humanistic Perspective, to be delivered by Emeritus Professor Abhulimen Richard Anao (The Founding HOD of Dept. of Accounting and Former Vice Chancellor, University of Benin) on February 11, 2022; the anniversary Gala Night will hold same day.”
   
They added that the accounting course was first offered as part of the B.Sc. Economics programme of the university in the 1975/76 session, and later became an important component of the B.Sc. Business Administration programme.

“The department was created in October 1981 to offer B.Sc. degree in acounting. Since then, the degree has been offered as a three and four-year full-time programme.

“The B.Sc. Accounting programme has produced high quality graduates who now occupy top managerial level in both public and private sectors of national economy.  A few have also made their marks in academics.”
