The Proprietor, Surest Firm Foundation Academy, Mrs Adebimpe Adeniyi, has advised the Federal Government to review the education curriculum and include emotional and mental studies for a total and balanced youth.
Adeniyi, who made the call at a forum in Lagos, said there’s a need to integrate subjects that focus on behavioural development, mental health, social and emotional intelligence, physical health, and spirituality.
“The impact of the environment on our children is significant, particularly when they are exposed to a toxic one. This exposure is detrimental as children absorb and learn from their surroundings.”
The proprietor noted that children are heavily influenced by images of violence and negative attitudes they encounter, warning that these experiences may lead them to emulating inappropriate conduct and speech patterns.
Adeniyi, whose foundation is also dedicated to healing and empowering traumatised children, pointed out that no one is immune to trauma, adding that the response and attitude towards it determine its impact on lives.
She observed that many children are left unattended to due to the absence of their parents, nothing this lack of guidance may adversely affect their behaviour and academic performance.
“It is crucial for parents to actively engage their wards as parental influence is significant.
