Remote working has become more common and suitable for companies and start-ups. This is no surprise as the advancement in technology, availability of productivity apps and rising need for social distancing has made it the best alternative to get work done.

Remote working has become more common and suitable for companies and start-ups. This is no surprise as the advancement in technology, availability of productivity apps and rising need for social distancing has made it the best alternative to get work done.

That said, this newfound freedom can be hard for employees, clients and founders to adjust since it is relatively new and most companies find it difficult to explain effective ways of working remotely. Those said, below are some tips, and tools for working remotely;

Make a schedule; just like a normal working hour in the office, have the same for remote work. Set time for virtual meetings, resumptions, check-ins, lunch breaks, and the likes, this schedule helps the team to work at the same time and communicate easily. Also this help to create some structure around work.

Communicate with Colleagues; working remotely is not a time to go AWOL on teammates, rather, this is the time to prioritize communication, there is nothing like over communication. It is important to do this when working remotely. Communication between the team could be daily reports via email, phone call check-ins, or messages.
Invest in Work Materials; as a company, it is important you provide employees with materials needed to work effectively. In a situation where the company is unable to do this, employees are more likely to give an excuse, which in turn limits productivity. Some of such materials could include laptops, data, etc.

Tools for Working Remotely;
Zoom; the zoom is one of the leaders in online video conferencing. This tool can be used for hosting meetings, webinars, and more. During remote meetings, you can record any call with a full-length video, share a screen with team and more.

Asana; asana is a work management tool. This tool helps to organize, and plan workflows, projects, and more, so you can keep your team’s work on schedule.

Google Drive; Google drive is a file storage and synchronization service develops by Google. This tool allows users to store files on their servers, synchronize files across devices, and share files. The remote worker can store and share documents, spreadsheets, slide presentations. It can be used for reporting on weekly metrics.

Slack; slack is a messaging remote work tool that everyone loves. A digital space that helps in communication among teammates, allows them to share ideas, share comments in real-time so everything moves swiftly.

Time Doctor; time doctor is a team time tracking application. It helps to keep track of how each individual person is keeping track of their time hence makes them accountable to their working hours.
