The Federal Government has been urged to empower youths to develop interest in agriculture so as to create opportunities and jobs for the teeming population.

An agricultural economist and Chief Operating Officer of Farmlinkup, Omoyele Omonira, called on the new Minister of Agriculture and Food Security,  Abubakar Kyari, to give incentives to the younger generation so they could create more jobs and make the sector competitive.

Omonira, who stated this while speaking during the launch of  Farmlinkup, in Elebu, Ibadan, Oyo State, said the organisation would help address post-harvest losses and agricultural glut by connecting farmers to the world of export opportunities, adding that it would  serve consumers who need fresh and nutritious food items.

He added that Farmlinkup makes the work of off-takers easier by partnering agricultural associations by revolutionising farming business and reduces logistic challenges.

Omonira said: “We are looking at the agricultural sector in Nigeria and provide solutions to the problem of harvest and distribution. There is glut during the season of farm produce.  There is surplus in some areas while there is shortage in other places. The idea of Farmlinkup is linking surplus to the shortage end.

“Africa can link the whole world.  We created a website for it and a leverage for meeting farmers. It is linking farmers and consumers together online.
