Entries open for 12th Mike Okonkwo National Essay Competition

The entries for the 12th Mike Okonkwo National Essay Competition for Secondary School Students in Nigeria opened March 9th, and will remain open till May 15th, 2015, as part of activities lined up to mark the 70th birthday of its initiator and presiding Bishop of The Redeemed Evangelical Mission (TREM), Dr. Mike Okonkwo.

The topic for this year’s competition is “The Nigerian Political Class and the Citizens Quest for Good Governance.”

According to organisers, among other things, the competition is aimed at contributing to the educational development of the country, and has over the years been very successful in helping the competitors to develop analytical and problem-solving skills.

The star winner school in the competition gets three Internet ready desktop computer sets and a printer, while the student goes home with a trophy, a laptop computer, N100, 000 cash and a plaque.

The first runner up school gets two Internet ready desktop computer sets and a printer and the student goes home with a cash prize of N75, 000 cash with a plaque, while the second runner up school gets an Internet ready computer, while the student gets N50, 000 cash prize and a plaque.

Essay could be submitted through email to essay@trem.org or by post to The Redeemed Evangelical Mission (TREM) International Headquarters, Obanikoro/ Anthony Oke bus stop, Lagos.

Prizes for this year’s competition will be presented to the winners at the 16th Mike Okonkwo Annual Lecture, which has been scheduled for Thursday, September 3rd, 2015 at the Muson Centre (Shell Hall).
