EU, government launch immunization project in 24 states
European Union (EU) under the EU-Sign in collaboration with the Federal Government has launched a seven years project, which aimed to strengthen immunization governance at 24 states in Nigeria.
European Union signed an agreement with the Federal Government to ensure of sustainable quality routine immunization services and support the interruption of wild poliovirus.
The Executive Secretary state Primary Health Care Development Agency (GPHCDA), Dr. Ahmed Gana, disclosed this while speaking during the official launching of the programmer in Gombe yesterday.
He said that has been polio-free since 2013 which led to the attraction of development partners to the state, like Bill Gate Foundation who supporting the state with over $15 million for the establishment of Village Health Workers Programme (VHWP) in the state.
“The state has also been given a grant N1.5 million by the World Bank through the Federal Ministry of Heath for the improvement of health care service particularly the Primary health care services in the state,” Gana added.
He further said that EU-Sign Project has awarded contract for construction of Nafada local government primary health care cold store and renovation of sold store.
Gana explained: “The state Primary health care delivery services is facing serious challenges in area of manpower shortage, lack of facilities poor infrastructure and many other issues I would like to appealed to the Government to put more effort to the Primary health care system in the state.”
EU-Sign project Gombe State Technical Assistant, Mr. Audu Gambo Kariya, said that the project is a health system strengthening project to increase access to and utilization of immunization services within an integrated primary health care service delivery system.
He added that the project is expected to support on the reduction of childhood morbidity and mortality in Nigeria due to vaccine preventable diseases through improved governance in the health sector.
Kariya stated: “Gombe state government has always taken the health of the state citizens with utmost care and love. The state has enjoyed the assistance from European Union Partnership to reinforce immunization efficiency (EU Prime) the project successfully developed and strengthened management capacity on immunization services at local government area and state leading to a progressive increase of funds allocation and utilization immunization.”

It’s amazing that a country that deludes itself as a great nation is still receiving alms from others. The tragedy is that it doesn’t even know its responsibilities until same foreign nations point them out. Shame! That’s why you have lunatics and destitutes discarded and roaming the streets.
