As part of an effort aimed at reducing road accidents during the ember months, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) and Honeywell Flour Mills Plc have kicked off ember month rally apparently to educate road users on the need to drive safely.

In a chat with journalists in Lagos recently, Managing Director, Honeywell Flour Mills Plc, Lanre Jaiyeola stated that 2020 has been a turbulent year. According to him, We don’t want road accidents to add to the challenges of the year. People will be travelling and conveying goods at this time so it is important we educate road users on the importance of safety and safe driving on our roads. We do not want any accidents as we go into the ember month.”

Similarly, the unit commander RS2.15 Ojota Unit Command Assistant Corps Commander Emmanuel Obi, noted that every festive or season of the year that is characterized with massive movement of people.

FRSC makes it a point of duty to remind road users of the need to promote the culture of safe roads both for themselves and other road users. In line with this tradition, the corps has chosen for this year, the theme “Drive safe, stay safe,” To stay safe means to be above hazards, danger, pain, to live a full life. To stay safe entails imbibing the mentality of a defensive driver. A defensive driver is patient, careful, shares the road and gives consideration to other road users.

“At FRSC, we are interested in the preservation of lives, wellbeing of the family and national economic well-being.”

Conclusively, he said to drive safely, a driver must avoid distracting habits such as: use of phone while driving, engaging in thoughts outside driving, street searching, watching roadside diversion, eating, drinking or smoking, keeping an eye on the kids or pet while driving.
