The new Director General of the Federal Institute of Industrial Research Oshodi (FIIRO), Dr (Mrs) Jummai Tutuwa Adamu, has said the institute has been tooled to fast-track entrepreneurship and industrialisation in the country.

She said this while assessing the facilities at the institute to ascertain their viability and relevance to the overall mandate of the institute.

Dr Adamu expressed satisfaction over the quality of staff manning the state-of-the-art equipment and the laboratories of the institute.

She harped on and promised to assist in the capacity development of members of staff with a view to improving their delivery time and productivity level. She unfolded the plan to expose the institute’s researchers to global best practices that would make them compete favourably with their colleagues in other parts of the world.

The director general met with the members of management, various committees handling specific assignments, the executives of the three unions and other relevant personnel.

The three unions tabled their concerns and expectations to the new director general and promised to work and cooperate with the new helmsman to take FIIRO to a higher level.

She requested time to digest the various observations and requests with a promise to present them, where applicable, to the governing board of the institute for long-lasting resolutions and solutions.

Dr. Mrs Jummai, an associate professor of Biochemistry, was appointed by the Federal Government of Nigeria for a five-year nonrenewable tenure. Until her appointment, she held sway as the director in charge of the National Biotechnology Development Agency.

It is widely expressed that Dr. Jummai would re-enact her giant strides at the biotechnology centre in FIIRO.
