Renowned Nigerian filmmaker, Niyi Akinmolayan, has proposed a tech solution for revolutionalising Nollywood, which according to him runs on passion and hope with little structure.
His solution is NollywoodFilmaker.com – a virtual Noah’s Ark that brings directors, screenwriters, editors, VFX artists, lawyers, movie marketers, all into one tightly controlled space.
He said: “Let professionals do the parts of your film you can’t handle. Stop losing partnerships due to lack of technical know-how, use intellectual property lawyers for contracts. Make successful films with the best people in the business! Our path to true profit and sustainable success in Nollywood begins with putting square pegs in square holes. This platform does that”.
Dr. Shaibu Hussein, CEO of the National Film and Video Censors Board (NFVCB), who was delighted by the project, described it as one undoubtedly capable of advancing the future of the Nigerian film industry.
“I assure you that NFVCB will be featuring the app on our website”, Hussein said.
It was gathered that NollywoodFilmaker.com registers and vigorously verifies film production talents and connects them to aspiring and accomplished filmmakers that need them. The platform aims to eliminate fraud in the delivery of filmmaking services as well as deploy a global-class training and rating system.
NF, as some at the event started to call it, is stepping into the beautiful chaos of Nollywood to forge an ecosystem with the aid of cutting edge tech, a 200-strong consulting cohort, and good old fashioned blood, sweat and tears.
The launch event at the J.K.Randle Center for Yoruba Culture was attended by
captains of the industry, government regulators, seasoned actors, financial investors, marketers, musicians, content creators, the media, and of course, aspiring filmmakers.
The presentations of peaked with a live demonstration of the platform where
an audience member (Aproko Doctor) signed up for the service, connected with and chatted live with one of the hundreds of consultants on the platform.
The night started with numbers on a screen counting down the website launch. But it ended with a room full of energized stakeholders. At the close of the event, it was clear to see that joy is coming to Nollywood.
