Fire guts tax office

Another fire incident was yesterday recorded at the Lagos State Internal Revenue Service (LIRS) office located at the Good Shepherd House, Alausa.

Offa Markets fireAnother fire incident was yesterday recorded at the Lagos State Internal Revenue Service (LIRS) office located at the Good Shepherd House, Alausa. The fire, which was coming barely 24 hours after a similar fire gutted four offices in the Lagos State Ministry of Commerce and Industry in Alausa, The Guardian was informed started at about 8:45am and razed a room in the LIRS office.

The affected room investigations revealed was a vacant office located at the third floor of the building. Thick smoke was noticed in the building, which resulted in panic.

As a result of ensuing pandemonium, hundreds of panic stricken workers in the four-storey building scampered for safety, The fire was, however, put out by men of the Lagos State Fire Service, whose office is nearby, 30 minutes after it started.

General Manager, Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA),
Michael Akindele, who confirmed the incident, said: “Fire men arrived at the scene three minutes after they got the distress call and they were able to curtail the fire to only one office.” Akindele, who could not confirm the cause of the fire, said a split air conditioner, was noticed to be on fire, which might likely be the cause.
