Firm partners Mountain Top varsity on mobile learning

Mobile-deviceSoftCom Solutions Limited, an information technology firm, has introduced a mobile learning programme for undergraduates of the newly established Mountain Top University (MTU).

The mobile learning programme, developed in conjunction with Samsung Business, is a revolutionary portable mobile device bundled with EduSocial apps that allow students access course materials, lecture notes, case studies and university libraries via their mobile devices.

The device, which has been adopted by other universities, was distributed MTU freshmen its maiden matriculation ceremony.

Speaking at the launch, Managing Partner/Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Softcom Solutions Limited, Yomi Adedeji, said the mobile learning device was a strategic initiative aimed at encouraging students of Nigerian universities, having realised that mobile learning was where the future of education lies globally.

According to him, “Everybody knows that the country’s educational system is a bit short in terms of global competitiveness. There is a need to improve education service delivery through technology adoption, which will improve learning experience and boost the overall academic outcome of students in Nigeria.

“Mobile learning is the future of education and having seen it work effectively in some selected universities that have adopted the device; we are motivated to extend this across the country. MTU is joining the network and I can assure you that it would impact the students’ learning.”

Vice-chancellor of the institution, Prof. Elijah Ayolabi, said the new institution was established to provide wholesome educational development and produce graduates that were capable of competing favourably globally.

Ayolabi maintained that the institution would provide infrastructure, facilities and a conducive environment for students to excel, adding that the introduction of the mobile learning device is part of the resolve to provide top-rate education for the new intakes.
