The Women Working With Children conference, spearheaded by Social Development Lawyer Taiwo Akinlami, will be held virtually on October 25 and 26.
The event aims to empower women caregivers by creating a platform for them to share stories, gain knowledge, and strengthen their leadership roles. Streaming live on the Taiwo Akinlami YouTube channel, the conference will offer insights into the challenges women face in patriarchal societies, especially regarding their roles as caregivers.
Akinlami, reflecting on his 25 years of experience working with women as both primary and secondary caregivers, emphasized the need to bring their struggles and successes to the forefront of public discourse. According to him, societal beliefs often limit women’s ability to fulfill their roles, creating a gap the conference seeks to address.
“It is my experience in the area of working with many women, who care about children both as poor and rich, but are limited by the dictates of the society that created the need for our program for WoW(Women Working) with Children Conference. I think it is important to bring these matters to the very front burner of public discourse so that our women can be better placed to play their inevitable roles in the lives of their precious children.”
Co-convener Olufunmilayo Akinlami, an expert in child safeguarding and protection, highlighted the essential role women play in fostering environments where children can thrive. She noted that empowering women with the necessary tools and support strengthens both families and communities.
The event will feature notable speakers, including LaShanna Potts, Mrs. Itoro Ugorji, Mrs. Omotola Lawson, Mrs. Oluwatoyin Onabanjo, Osayuwamen Saleh, Wendy Ologe, and Emmanuella Azubuike. While the moderator at the event is Ayo Ayeni. Registration is free, and attendees are encouraged to subscribe for updates.
