THE inauguration ceremony of the 2015 Students’ Representative Council (SRC) of the Nigeria French Language Village was held recently at the Governing Council Chamber of the Village. The programme was presided over by the Director of the institution, Prof. Raufu Adebisi and was moderated by the Registrar, ‘Remi Fatuwase., according to a statement by the Head, Protocol & Public Relations, Festus Okundia.

Adebisi admonished them to cooperate with Management by rendering useful suggestions that could assist in making the Village a haven for learning.

The Director advised the executives to be focussed, steadfast and committed to their studies stressing that they should remain the shining examples to be emulated by other students.
On mode of dressing, Adebisi called on the students to follow the Village dress code handed to them on arrival at the Village and to encourage their colleagues to follow suit.

According to him, “nudity is not fashion and fashion is not nakedness.” For this, he called on the students to portray humility and nobility through proper dressing. The policy on dressing was introduced in the year 2004 and has since then been enforced for both staff and students. As time seems to be overtaking the policy, the new Director of the Village Prof. Raufu Adebisi pledged to enforce compliance in full. He stressed that it is the right of the Village to prescribe its rules and regulations which binds on anyone willing to undergo its programmes and activities.

He further advised them to keep strictly to the simple rules and regulations throughout their period of study in the Village. He implored them to ensure proper use of the available facilities in the Village and to protect them at all times. The Oath of membership of the SRC was administered to the students by the Registrar, ‘Remi Fatunwase at the instance and presence of the Director.

The students were called upon to study hard to win the various awards available in the Village, stating that it would be appreciated if members of the Exco form part of the winners.

The President of the SRC, Mr. Abdulquader Daud from Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria promised to co-operate with Management in ensuring that the existing peace and harmony in the Village were sustained.

He thanked the Director and Management for opening the opportunity for them to serve the Village in their little way maintaining that the Village remains the MECCA of every serious student of French in Nigeria. The tenure of the SRC ends with the second semester.
