Seasoned professionals, entrepreneurs, and experts in Islamic finance convened at the maiden Ijebu Muslim Business Summit (IMBS) to examine ethical business approaches rooted in Islamic principles. The summit, themed “Sustaining Growth with Islamic Principles,” drew over 300 participants from across the region, all united by a vision to reshape business through the lens of faith, innovation, and societal impact.
President of the Institute of Islamic Finance Professionals, Professor Tajudeen Yusuf, set the tone with a keynote address underscoring the critical need for enterprises driven by strong values. In his speech, titled “Building a Sustainable Future: Harnessing Islamic Principles for Business Growth and Economic Prosperity,” Professor Yusuf emphasised the foundational role of trust, fairness, non-interest financing, and social justice in achieving enduring success.
“Islamic finance is not simply an alternative rooted in religion; it provides a robust framework built on resilience, ethical conduct, and the empowerment of individuals and communities,” he asserted.
The discussions took a broad dimension during a panel session featuring influential figures from diverse sectors. CEO of Folafunmi Pharmacy, Alhaji Afui Ettu, shared valuable insights on maintaining resilience and upholding integrity within the retail healthcare industry. Managing Director of Hayat Trust Non-Interest Microfinance Bank Ltd, Mr. Raheem Musa, explored the significant potential of interest-free banking in poverty reduction. CEO of Kaylass Innovation and Investment Ltd, Dr. Jubril Olukayode Lasisi, illuminated the role of innovation in unlocking opportunities within the Halal investment landscape. CTO of Autocredit and TTA, Mr. Sherrif Awonuga, discussed the integration of technology with Islamic financial compliance to create scalable solutions.
Representing the younger generation and the digital retail sphere, founder of HajjyGadgets,Miss Hajarah Adams, inspired young Muslims to harmonize their commercial pursuits with strong moral character.
A special segment featured, the Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Al-Hayat Relief Foundation, Professor Taofiki Ajani Salako, who advocated stronger collaborative efforts between Islamic organizations and business platforms.
Principal Partner at Hijrah Attorneys, Barrister AbdurRafii Adesina Baruwa, provided insights into the legal framework supporting interest-free entrepreneurship, while CEO, Tubazas Concepts, Dr. Asif Azeez, highlighted mentorship as a crucial element for sustained business development.
A key highlight of the summit was the disbursement of ₦200,000 in grants to selected Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs). This initiative aims to empower these businesses to expand their operations while adhering to ethical business practices.
In his closing remarks, Mr. Baruwa Ubaydullah, the Convener of IMBS 2025, expressed his appreciation to the speakers, volunteers, and attendees.
