President of the Fatima Charity Foundation (FCF) andIyalode of Lagos, Chief Bintu-Fatima Tinubu, has called on Nigerians to set aside differences and embrace a common goal of national prosperity.

Speaking during the FCF Multi-Faith Prayer Session and Ramadan Lecture in Surulere, the founder urged Nigerians to work together for national development, seeking for prayers and support for national leaders.

Also, the First Lady of Lagos State, Dr. Claudiana Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, also urged religious institutions to unite in combating the escalating moral decadence plaguing Nigeria. She emphasized the urgent need for a multi-pronged approach to restore core values.

Represented by the wife of the Special Adviser to the Lagos State Governor on Tourism, Arts & Culture, Islamiyyat Aregbe, Mrs Sanwo-Olu urged families, educational bodies, and government agencies to join forces with religious leaders in instilling values of honesty, hard work, respect, and accountability, particularly among young people.

Addressing the lecture’s theme, “Moral Decadence and Its Socio-Economic Implications on the Nigerian Society,” she warned that a society devoid of strong moral principles risks corruption, indiscipline, crime, and social unrest, all of which impede economic growth and national prosperity.

“In Lagos and across Nigeria, we see worrying trends such as youth restiveness, drug abuse, internet fraud, and violence,” she stated. “However, we must recognize that moral decline is not irreversible. It requires a collective effort.”

The First Lady lauded faith-based organizations, specifically highlighting the Fatima Charity Foundation’s commitment to fostering peace, moral rejuvenation, and social cohesion. “When properly harnessed, religion serves as a powerful tool for unity, social harmony, and economic progress,” she added.

She reiterated Lagos State government’s commitment to religious harmony and initiatives promoting moral and spiritual development. “Beyond professing faith, we must live out the true values of our beliefs,” she said.

Guest speaker, Pastor Ituah Ighodalo attributed moral decadence to illiteracy and the “fear of the unknown.” He urged the government to prioritize education and parents to monitor their children’s social media usage. He also emphasized the role of good governance in fostering a morally sound society.
