GIC tasks students on innovation, technology

Towards ensuring Muslim students succeed in a dynamic global environment, the Glorious Islamic Centre (GIC), has enlightened youths on lucrative opportunities in Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Agricultural Entrepreneurship.

Towards ensuring Muslim students succeed in a dynamic global environment, the Glorious Islamic Centre (GIC), has enlightened youths on lucrative opportunities in Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Agricultural Entrepreneurship.

Speaking at the 11th edition of her yearly career lectures for secondary school students from Muslim schools in Lagos recently, GIC President, Akin Laguda, said through career development, the youths would develop an interest in their field of choice.

According to him, students are the world’s future leaders and innovators; they need to have access to knowledge that will help them succeed.

He noted that education needs to move with the times, which is why the centre organised the Career Day every year to educate and provide opportunities to students by bringing in different speakers on various career options.

Laguda added that as technology continues to grow, it’s crucial to sensitise students on career opportunities in the sector.

“We educate them on drone technology to let the student know the usefulness and application of drones in many fields. Likewise agriprenureship to let know how to leverage agriculture.”

He urged the government to invest more in IT technology, as this will go a long way in helping the country develop. “ This has to start from school. A substantial fund should be allocated to the technology.”

The Guest speaker, Kadijat Olewadegun, while enlightening the student on drone technology, its application and its use, advised the student to harness opportunity in Artificial Intelligence (AI).

“Drones are used by individual entrepreneurs, SMEs, and large companies to accomplish various tasks. We can actually use it as surveillance in information gathering or tracking. As Muslims we must not relent, we must harness new technologies as the world moves fast with technology,” said Oluwadegun

She urged the student to leverage technology as Muslim inventors changed and moulded the modern-day world.

“Technology proffers solutions to so many problems, it broadens the heart. There are so many areas in our life that we can apply artificial intelligence.”

Assistant Lecturer, Ministry of Agriculture, Lagos State, AbdulRasak Olayinka Bashorun, while delivering a lecture on agricultural entrepreneurship, said ,adding value to agriculture product increase the value of commodities.

She urged the youths to tap into the enormous lucrative opportunities in agric business.
