The Proprietress of Godleads Nursery and Primary School, Oshodi, Lagos, Celina Unegbu, has attributed educational problems in the country to lack of professionals and educationalists, which is affecting the sector.

Speaking at the 21st Anniversary and graduation ceremony of the school, recently, Unegbu said it has become common for people with no background knowledge or experience in education to establish schools. But because of this lack of expertise, they don’t have the capacity to provide the sound foundation necessary for the children’s future. Consequently, the children are not properly educated.

She said: ‘‘For nursery and primary pupils, there is no need employing people with Masters degree or PHD to teach them. The categories of people that can take proper care of them are NCE and degree holders for upper primary. Without education, we are nowhere, as education is the pillar of any nation. I, therefore, urge the Federal Government to do all within its power to ensure that our educational system is up to standard.

“Parents should also contribute their quota by equipping their children with the right educational tools for the children to succeed in life. Parents should not divert their children’s attention by forcing them to go into careers they don’t like.’’

The occasion recorded a large turnout of parents, well-wishers and guests, who came to celebrate with the school leavers, wishing them the best as they move on to greater heights. Some of the highlights of the event include choreography and debates by the students.
