Malaria, known to be one of the world’s top deadliest diseases, has remained a major threat to economic development and public health in the geopolitical zones in Nigeria.

Attempts have been made to control and completely eradicate the disease with the use of drugs (for the malaria parasites) and insecticides (for the mosquitoes). The World Malaria Report (2020) states that 76 per cent of the Nigerian population is at risk of being infected with malaria and Nigeria has about 27 percent of malaria cases worldwide with 24 percent of deaths in 2019 which was the highest globally. A large percentage of malaria cases which has resulted in death is possible to occur in children who are less than the age of 5.

Over the years, there has been a moderate deterioration in the occurrence of malaria in Nigeria due to the innovation and availability of insecticides.

According to the Borgen Project 2022, there are some major factors that affect the risk of getting malaria in the country.

Housing discrepancies in Nigeria can lead to overcrowding living conditions. These overloaded spaces can serve as a channel for outbursts of diseases and can also lead to the rise in the risk of malaria in those areas because some chemicals and carbon dioxide in overcrowded houses can attract mosquitoes. An unclean living condition also serves as a place for mosquitoes to breed.

As of 2021, 60 million Nigerians lived in areas with poor sanitary facilities, they lacked access to clean water and basic amenities to public health measures. Also, about 83 million Nigerians do not have access to health care services which has resulted in high morbidity rates.

Looking at the consistent rise of malaria in Nigeria, Goodknight (a brand of Godrej Nigeria), has taken on the responsibility to eradicate malaria in Nigeria. In 2022, Goodknight carried out a CSR and Malaria Awareness Walkathon in sensitizing communities about malaria and what to do in ensuring that they are free from malaria, and live in environments that are mosquito free. Also, back In 2021, Goodknight carried a CSR of cleaning major societies that are prone to malaria.

Not only has Goodknight carried out CSRs, but they have also come up with the innovation of producing spray and stay insecticides called Goodknight Powershot. This insecticide does not contain harmful chemicals and causes no damage to humans. In liaison with the Federal Ministry of Health and the Lagos Ministry of Health and information, this insecticide was shared with multiple community locals.

Furthermore, Goodknight Nigeria has recently introduced the Goodknight Power Activ+ to the market, which is an electric liquid vaporizer and it is a faster and safer way of getting rid of mosquitoes in your home. The Goodknight Power Activ+ has a more improved formula, it comes with a dual-mode advantage, 50 per cent powerful in the Normal mode and even more powerful in the Activ mode.

Goodknight Power Activ+ has a dual mode technology that has made it easy to regulate the electric insecticide by switching between the activ mode and normal mode depending on the level of mosquito infestation in your home. Goodknight Power Activ+ is free from harmful chemicals and can be used while staying in your home. To make use of the electric insecticide, all that is required is to plug it in throughout the night without bothering about how you have to spray your house and leave the house for hours.

The Power Activ+ comes with a high heating system that ensures low electricity consumption and the timely effective release of the Power Activ+. The use of Goodknight Power Activ+ is a stress-free method of protecting your family against malaria.

Goodknight Nigeria’s innovation of insecticides and its contribution to Nigerian society is to ensure that Nigeria is totally free from malaria.
