Arise women, alumni offer free medical services

STAFFERS and students of Methodist Girls High School, Yaba, Lagos, were treated to a free medical services recently when Arise women, a Charitable Organisation of the women wing of Redeemed Christian Church of Good (RCCG), Region 20 in partnership with the alumni of the school took their mobile clinic to the school and offered free medical services, health talks, while also dispensing drugs.

Among the services given to the over 500 members of the school were free consultation, screening (including cancer and eyes) and primary treatment of pneumonia, high blood pressure (HBP), dental care, sugar level, health talk to the students, laboratory tests and drugs given for treatment of malaria, typhoid and other diseases.

Speaking at the event the Convener and Founder, Arise Women, Pastor (Mrs.) Siju Iluyomade said that the primary aim of the organisation is to reach out to as many women in the society that cannot afford medical treatment and assist them while also uplifting them spiritually.

Pointing out that the organisation had previously visited Queens College, Yaba, Siju, who also is a lawyer by profession and a pastor in RCCG, Region 20, noted that they found it necessary to teach young girls how to look after themselves from an early stage and assist them in leading a healthy lifestyle, which will prevent the occasion of curative healthcare.

She stated that the services they offer are for minor medical cases, adding: “We are just the first point of call; we are not specialists.

What we do, is that, if we discover cases which require specialist attention, we refer them to the right and appropriate quarters.”

Siju further revealed that their services is not limited only to schools, Lagos State or the women folk but for as many schools as the Lord leads.

So we intend to take it not only outside Lagos but also to other parts of Nigeria. We will be having our yearly Arise Women’s Conference, a forum where over 10,000 women have been impacted, inspired and encouraged to achieve their God given potentials on October 30, 2015 and we will be having a similar conference running in Abuja in November.”

Meanwhile, the President, Methodist Girls High School, Old Girls Association, a 1974-79 set, Mrs. Anne Olorun-Rinu said that the association decided to partner with the Arise Women and give back to their alma mater and its members and staffs.

She said that the association reflected on a few projects that they can use to impact on the school for the year and recognized the importance of health and wellbeing and most importantly, making it a lifestyle.
