Cynthia Osokogwu’s death: Court threatens to revoke bail for the accused

Justice Olabisi Akinlade of the Lagos State High Court in Igbosere had threatened to revoke the bail granted the fourth accused, Nonso Ezike, who is standing trial along three other defendants in the murder case of the late Cynthia Osokogwu.

The trial judge’s threat was as a result of Ezike’s counsel approach to the trial. The trial, which was billed for the adoption of no case submission filed by the defendant, could not go on.
Reacting to Ezikel’s counsel approach, Justice Akinlade, while expressing her displeasure, said: “The accused is wasting time and delaying the whole process of the court because he is on bail. I left my comfort zone this morning to come and attend to this matter when the court is already on break.”

When the court asked the accused for the whereabouts of his counsel, he said he had earlier communicated with his counsel but was informed that he was involved in a serious accident. Ezike further informed the court of his desire to change the counsel.
The defendant informed the court that he had begun consultation with the counsel to the third defendant to represent him.

However, Justice Akinlade held that the accused has a choice to choose whoever is going to represent him but he must perfect necessary arrangement with the counsel before the next sitting.
The case was adjourned to the October 26, 2015.
