Desmond-ElliotA TOTAL of 28 resolutions have been passed since the current 8th Assembly commenced in June 2015. The resolutions covered a broad range of socio-economic, political and other issues pertaining to the welfare of Lagosians and progress of the state.

This was disclosed by Desmond Elliot, an actor and lawmaker representing Surulere 1 in the Lagos State House of Assembly, at a stakeholders’ meeting held at Surulere Local Government, Lagos recently.

He said, “We have in the course of our duties settled communal clashes, played the Ombudsman’s role while not neglecting several petitions referred to us for mediation and resolution.”

Elliot said the decision to reach out to the constituents and other groups was borne out of the desire to deepen the democratic culture as well as facilitate participatory governance in the state.

According to him, the development was the first ever constituency stakeholders’ meeting to be held simultaneously across the 40 constituencies in the state.

Elliot emphasized that it was in consonance with the effort of the Assembly to give meaning to good representation and governance that the decision to organise the stakeholders’ meeting was embarked upon to enable lawmakers obtain firsthand information concerning the state of affairs and assess the needs of the people.
