Lagos council chairs, wives appointed new Stop TB Ambassadors
Female local council chairmen and wives of male council chairmen in Lagos State have been appointed Stop TB Ambassadors by the first lady of Lagos, Dr Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu.
Speaking at the investiture ceremony, Sanwo-Olu, said the plan for the investiture had been on in the last five years, and was optimistic that the new ambassadors would join the state government to kick out TB in Lagos.
She tasked the newly inducted ambassadors to take urgent steps within 48 hours in their different communities to change the narrative in the fight against TB.
Sanwo-Olu enjoined the new ambassadors to get philanthropists to support the project, imploring them to take the campaign to schools, garages and markets.
Lagos State Commissioner for Health, Professor Akin Abayomi, also tasked the newly inducted ambassadors to go after the unaccounted 15,000 residents of Lagos living with tuberculosis, stating that parties are the commonest and fastest places to get infected with TB.
He said it is important that the newly inducted ambassadors should go after the unaccounted TB sufferers because TB is an infectious disease that can be easily contracted.
All the newly inducted ambassadors pledged to drive TB awareness in their communities aside driving increased budgetary provision for the fight against tuberculosis in the state.
