Nigeria @ 65: Deputy gov implores Nigerians to criticise leaders but talk positively about Nigeria

Lagos State Deputy Governor, Dr Obafemi Hamzat, has said that Nigerians must talk positively about their country, even when they criticise their leaders, just as parents must ensure that their children does not get strayed away into evil through technology.

Speaking on Friday at the 65th National Independence Day celebration organised by the Ministry of Home Affairs, Hamzat also said that Nigerians must not only criticise their leaders, they must also do the right things in their corner where they leading or serving.

He said that Nigerians should know that when they do not keep to their words or do the right thing, there are usually repercussions whether positive or negatives. He added that Nigerians must know that what they do today will affect them tomorrow.

He observed that many Nigerians talk based on lies about Nigeria, yet they expect foreign investors to come into the country or foreigners to talk positively about Nigeria. “So let us tone down the negative about our country, I am not saying we should not criticise. Some say the level of education is dropping drastically but yet many of the pupils in Lagos State public schools are more brilliant than us when we were at that stage. As Muslims, it is important to train the children right because if they are not trained properly, there would be problems.

“We also must get them to be digitally educated, especially in the area of Artificial Intelligence (AI), although AI is not new because it has been around since 1956, it was coined then. It is just it has advanced more now. The world is changing and we must change with it. For AI to be positive for the children, we must engage them with it.

If we don’t teach them the way of God so that they do not stray. This is why also clerics must teach the way of Allah as it relates to family.”
