Oke-Odo Market traders cry out to Ambode over NURTW harassment

Market men and women at the Araromi Oke-Odo market in Abule-Egba area of Lagos; have cried out to governor Akinwunmi Ambode over incessant harassments by members of the National Union of Road Transport Workers, (NURTW).

The traders accused the NURTW of trying to take over the market even when the market is not a park where they operate.

A statement issued by the Araromi Oke-Odo Market Association on Sunday and signed by its leader, Modupe Sonola (the Iya Oja) among others, said the Iyaloja General, Folashade Tinubu-Ojo, had already stopped all forms of ticketing in the market by NURTW but wanted Ambode to also wade in so that there would be a total stop of illegality in the market by the transporters.

At a recent meeting, the traders said that the crisis in Oke-Odo Market had the capacity to portray the state government as one that encouraged lawlessness and brigandage as it had always been the case when NURTW members, who unleash mayhem across the state.

We, in Araromi Oke-Odo Market hope that the action of the Iyaloja General to clean all markets in Lagos State off miscreants needs to be supported and backed by the government so as to further portray the All Progressives Congress (APC) as a party that truly comes to save the nation of activities that had for years portray Nigeria as a lawless country,” the traders said.
