Navigating through Lagos roads may be cumbersome, sometimes, for motorists as a result of chaotic traffic. One of the steps taken by governments to ease movement across communities is the installation of road signs.
And the road signs truly help motorists to move through the city of Lagos smoothly. But across the state, there are road signs that should be directing motorists to navigate through the roads of Lagos. However, rather than directing motorists through the city, some road signs are misdirecting drivers.
For instance, there is a road sign close to the Bonny Camp Flyover at Victoria Island telling motorists that Ozumba Mbadiwe Road is closed and that alternative routes should be used for commuting. Yet the Ozumba Mbadiwe Road is not closed to vehicular movement.
And that is not the only of such road signs misdirecting motorists and commuters. There is another around the Toll gate/7up area of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.
There are three of such road signs along that corridor. One of the signboards says Third Mainland Bridge closes by 12 noon so motorists should use alternative routes.
Another of such road signs said that the Iyana Oworo to Adeniji Adele (Island bound) is closed to traffic from January 9 to February 25, 2024. Although this last road signs provided specific dates for which the road will be closed, the date was in tinny fonts that motorists driving through might easily miss.
It was observed that these road signs were mounted during road construction to re-route vehicular movements across the city. But after the road construction was completed, the road signs were not removed.
