Society honours 11 fellows, inducts new members

Eleven fellows and new members were both honoured and inducted at the 18th edition of the Annual Public Lecture/Luncheon of the Nigerian Society of Chemical Engineers, Lagos and Ogun State Chapter, a division of Nigerian Society of Engineers at a grand event that took place at Westown Hotels, Sheraton-Opebi Link Road, Ikeja, Lagos.

Eleven fellows and new members were both honoured and inducted at the 18th edition of the Annual Public Lecture/Luncheon of the Nigerian Society of Chemical Engineers, Lagos and Ogun State Chapter, a division of Nigerian Society of Engineers at a grand event that took place at Westown Hotels, Sheraton-Opebi Link Road, Ikeja, Lagos.

The lecture titled “The Nigerian Fuel System: The Past, Present and Vision for the Future” was delivered by General Manager, Capital Oil Limited, Taiwo Shokunbi.

Chairman, Lagos/Ogun Chapter, Dr. K.F.K Oyedeko, said the awardees including the chairman of the occasion, Olayinka Oluwatimehin, David Adeyemo, Taiwo Sokunbi, Dr. John Erinne, among others were honoured for their commitment to the society, coupled with their unflinching support to the chapter and the nation, as some of them were employers of labour. “We are encouraging them to keep on employing graduates as they are solving one of the major problems of this country.” He urged the newly inducted members to remain committed to the society.

Oyedeko disclosed that the chapter has signed an MoU agreement with South Africa Chemical Engineers and American Institute of Chemical Engneers.

The society apart from welfare package for our members also have what we call NSChE Foundation that takes care of our young graduates that are looking for job by teaching them how to become entrepreneurs. We mentor them, give them money and encourage them to grow.
“We also have an annual conference where technical knowledge is passed to our members where we also deal with issues affecting our members and that of the nation. We also produce journals through which knowledge is disseminated” he said.

“The society is committed to virtually every industry as we are responsible for converting raw materials to finished products and we have our tentacles at refineries, petro-chemical industries among others.
Oyedeko said that members of the society cut across the country.
Shokunbi in his submission advised the government to deregulate the oil sector.
