A resident of 5, Association Avenue in Ilupeju, Lagos, Vincent Uba, has alleged that a new buyer of the property he is residing has been intimidating him and working to forcefully evict him after serving him just seven-day quit notice.

Uba is, therefore, calling on Lagos State Governor, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu and other government agencies to please intervene and come to his rescue.

He stated that on May 13, 2025, he, like other tenants, were served a seven-day quit notice by persons claiming to be from Oyo State Ministry of Justice.

He added that immediately after the expiration of the seven-day quit notice, he got a WhatsApp message invite from the AIG, Zonal Oracle Unit, Zone 2 Police Command, Onikan, Lagos, where he slammed with two petitions from the Oyo State Ministry of Justice and Adeola & Adeola Chambers.

“To my dismay, both petitions falsely accused me of criminal activities-including collecting rent from tenants and refusing to remit the funds, and constituting a nuisance within the premises. I gave my statement, after which I was taken to the head of the unit, CSP Uba B. Adams. He informed me that there was now a new owner of the property and advised me to vacate to enable the new owner take possession. He further warned that failure to vacate would result in consequences based on the petition against me. To secure my release, I was made to pay 50,000 for bail and instructed to return on June 3, 2025.

“On June 3, we were summoned to the office of CSP Uba Adams, who gave us an ultimatum to vacate the premises within 14 days or face the full force of the police. The following day, June 4, 2025, they began moving in truckloads of sand and concrete blocks, occupying all available spaces, and blocking the main entrance to my apartment.”

On June 20, 2025, the contractors and agents of the supposed new owner came with a large truck with about 12 labourers. They attempted to forcefully enter my apartment and eject my family and me. But for the timely intervention of neighbors, they might have succeeded. On June 24, 2025, at 9:00am, police officers came into the premises and arrested individuals they encountered.

“Equally troubling is the fact that those arrested on June 24 were detained overnight and arraigned the next day in handcuffs, based on frivolous allegations of converting the building to chalets and bringing under aged girls.”

He revealed that he escaped being arrested by the Police by luck and that two of the tenants arrested on the day were still in custody.

“The hounding and threat to my life by the police and the purported new owners, Vivastar Nig. Ltd, have become ferocious, hence I appeal to the Federal Government under the able leadership and hardworking president, Bola Ahmed Tinubu; Governor of Lagos State, His Excellency Babajide Sanwo-Olu, and all well meaning Nigerians, to intervene in this matter.”

Efforts to reach the representative of the new owner of the property were not successful as he neither picked her calls not respond to the message sent to her as at press time.
