An interest group, Education for Life, has called on the Kano State government to revisit the sack of the management of the state-owned polytechnic, saying the dissolution affected “non-partisan and innocent individuals.”

Rector of the school, Prof. Dalhatu Galadanchi, was removed alongside directors of schools in the institution over the alleged embezzlement of over N400 million.

It would be recalled that before the removal of the rector, allegations of funds’ embezzlement prompted an open letter to the Deputy Governor, who doubles as the Commissioner for Education, by the then Director of School of Management Studies, Dr Salisu Indabawa.

Coordinator of the group, Ahmed Abdullahi, Shekaran Gwammaja, who made the call during a media briefing said that what happened at the school, which eventually led to the sacking of Galadanchi, though done in good faith, had left behind some unexplained circumstances.

Gwammaja cautioned that, “In this era of due process, transparency and accountability, the offence or sin of one person should not affect those that are seen to be innocent. Government should kindly revisit that decision and exempt those that are innocent.

“Government should do everything possible to ensure that what led to the sacking of the rector and other directors is looked at again with the aim of finding a lasting solution to it. Just as we have the right to know how government is handling the allegation against the former rector, we also want to know what offence the sacked directors committed that warranted their being sacked alongside the rector.

“What we believe is that it is not enough to just sack an alleged offender without pursuing all allegations against him to their logical conclusions,” Gwammaja noted.

They called on the state government to put in place a fact-finding committee to revisit the earlier decision taken on the removal of all unit schools under the polytechnic.
