Health workers suspend strike, issue another ultimatum

The Union of Allied Healthcare Professionals (NUAHP) has in honour of the new government of President Muhammadu Buhari, suspended its three-weeks-old industrial action embarked upon to press home its demand of injustice and inequality on its members in the sector, while giving government till July 31 to resolve the issues under contention.

In a press release made available to The Guardian, the President of the group, Comrade. Dr. Ogbonna Obinna Chimela called on Buhari to intervene on the crisis in the sector where he disclosed their members are being oppressed by their medical practitioners.

The statement reads in part; “The National Administrative Council of the Union on the June 4, 2015, having assessed the impact of the strike through responses from the unit branches across the nation, made the following recommendations: That the strike was very effective nationwide; Since one of the aims of the strike was to draw the attention of the present Government led by President Mohammadu Buhari to the pending issues that the Dr. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan’s Government left unresolved.
