3,000 vulnerable persons get free urology surgery in Katsina

Katsina State-born business mogul and philanthropist, Alhaji Dahiru Mangal, has sponsored urology surgeries and treatments for more than 3,000 vulnerable patients within and outside the state.

The surgery sponsorship was made possible through his Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO), Mangal Foundation, with more than N80 million expended in the process.

A Board of Trustees member of the Foundation, Husaaini Kabir, made this known Wednesday during the ongoing urology surgery exercise for this quarter in the state metropolitan area.

Kabir explained that the over 3,000 vulnerable patients who have benefitted cut across all walks of life, and that the exercise has so far been conducted about 10 times since it was first initiated.

He also said another N20 million has been earmarked for the exercise for the second quarter of this year, with over 100 vulnerable patients expected to benefit.

He, however, explained that after free medical checkups, benefiting patients who do not require surgery would be provided with free drugs.

Kabir also said people from different communities within the state, neighboring states, and even from Niger Republic are also benefitting from the gesture.

He stated that the foundation’s main objective is to alleviate the burden of healthcare costs on the most vulnerable people, as many of them struggle to meet basic needs.

He said the gesture, which is part of the foundation’s Social Corporate Responsibility (SCR), is aimed at giving back to society, especially to the less privileged.

He stated that the screening for the outreach is currently ongoing at the Amadi Rimi Orthopaedic Hospital in Batagarawa Local Government Area of the state.

According to him, “The foundation has engaged the best medical team and procured high-quality drugs and medical equipment for the surgery.”

Kabir added that the foundation is exclusively for empowerment, development, educational and charitable purposes, and supporting the poor and vulnerable in the areas of healthcare and economic skills.

He further revealed that the foundation, established in 2016, had also sponsored eye, hernia, and hydrocele surgical operations for thousands of vulnerable patients.

Speaking, one of the beneficiaries and a staff member of the state polytechnic, Adamu Aliyu, commended the foundation for its efforts, adding that he had been looking for such an opportunity.

Aliyu said his little salary could not afford him the surgery because of the huge expenses involved, even as he prayed the Almighty to reward the foundation for its good gesture.

Other beneficiaries also commended the foundation’s gesture, with a call on government, private organisations, and other wealthy individuals to emulate it.
