Anambra First Lady honoured for health, child support initiatives

Dr. Nonye Soludo, the First Lady of Anambra State, has been named First Lady of the Year (Health-Care and Child Support) at the 2025 Nigerian Humanitarian Awards and Magazine, recognising her extensive contributions to community health and child welfare across the state.

The award, announced on Friday night, followed an open nationwide nomination and public voting process that attracted thousands of submissions from citizens and humanitarian observers.

Organised by the Humanitarian Achievement and Outreach Foundation, the accolade celebrates leaders who demonstrate exceptional humanitarian commitment.

Dr. Soludo’s initiatives, particularly her flagship campaign “Healthy Living with Nonye Soludo”, have focused on improving maternal and child health, raising nutritional awareness, supporting underprivileged families, and promoting community-wide health education in both urban and rural areas.

Receiving the award, Dr. Soludo expressed gratitude to the organisers and Nigerians who supported her work through voting.

“Last night in Abuja, I received the Award as Nigeria’s First Lady of the Year (Healthcare & Child Support), courtesy of Humanitarian Awards, Magazine & Summit,” she said.

Reflecting on the growth of her initiative, she added, “What began over 19 years ago as a simple passion has now transformed into a massive crusade. I couldn’t be any less grateful for the grace of consistency and support. Healthy Living with Nonye Soludo has come to stay.”

Dr. Soludo dedicated the honour to her supporters, calling them the driving force behind the program’s success. “To all of you who come out each Saturday morning to work out with me and to all the beautiful children in Anambra whose life and future have been reassured by what we do. This is for you. You are the pride of what we do,” she said.

The award underscores the growing recognition of First Ladies in Nigeria as agents of social change, particularly in the fields of public health and child development.
